BlackBerry Support (BBS)

(Author: Conrad van Niekerk)

All of these secrets have been tested...I would expect them to work on all keyboard-featured BlackBerry devices. The above secrets may or may not work on BlackBerry Pearl series handsets. I don't think it will work on touch screen phones.

In some cases, you will need to be on the Home screen when you enter these codes...

Before we start, let's settle these:

Question: What is your "Home Screen"?
Answer: It is what you see before you click on "menu"...where you see your wallpaper; date and time...by default.

Question: What is the "Menu" button?
Answer: the large button with the BB logo on mext to your green button.

Question: What is BIM or BBM?
Answer: BlackBerry Instant Messenger or BlackBerry Messenger.

If you have anymore questions you can add me on BIM/BBM but please do not spam and keep the time zones in mind:
UTC/GMT +2 hours
SAST - South Africa Standard Time

Tip 1
Add BIM/BBM Country Flags

Access different country flags within BBM 5.0. Technically, the smileys are just letters and numbers.

To Do:
- Type into your chat box or mood in BIM/BBM one of the following:
*AM*
*AN*
*BZ*
More: *BB* *VC* *SD* *MM* *TR* *UY* *RE* *GH* *LK* *CV* *BN* *IT* *QA* *WS* *SZ* *KM* *CF* *VG*

- Took a while but found the South African flag *ZA*

(BIM/BBM me if you find more flag codes?)

Note: If you get a broadcast on your BB that says something like:
"BlackBerry will remove you if you do not send this "broadcast on to all your contacts" or they might say "To unlock more pictures of BB smileys, broadcast this message to all your contacts. (This message might well contain smileys and pictures to make it tempting...)" IT IS A SCAM! Do not broadcast broadcasts, even if asked or told to.
If you need more smileys or pictures for your BBM/BIM, just add me and ask. I will happily send it to you.(see my pin intro. of page)

Tip 6
Other use for your BB bar code scanner

(Not in South Africa as far as I know.)

To Do:
- Scan a Quick Response Code
Many companies are utilising quick-response (QR) codes to allow mobile phone users to download their information quickly. A quick-response code is basically a bar code containing embedded information that can be scanned utilizing your Blackberry’s camera. The codes can contain information, links to a URL, driving directions, coupons and more. Open your Blackberry Messenger application and press the “Menu” key. Choose “Invite Contact”, then “Scan A Person’s Barcode”. Hold your device so that the camera lens is pointed at the QR code and can be viewed on your Blackberry’s screen. Wait until you hear the success beep. Your Blackberry will prompt you to open the link from the QR code. Click “Yes”.

Tip 16
“What if my BlackBerry got wet?”

To Do:
- Stick your wet BlackBerry, or any other doomed device, (turned off) in a bowl of uncooked rice overnight, and it will suck out the moisture.
- Dry Your Device with Silica Gel: If you've dropped your BlackBerry in water, dry it out with silica-gel packets, which often come in shoeboxes. This also works with silica cat litter, which is generally labeled as crystal.
- (LAST resort – Do at OWN RISK) this is said to work: Another drying option that also disinfects is 100 percent alcohol. Turn your BlackBerry off, soak it in alcohol and take it apart as much as possible. The alcohol should evaporate with exposure to air.
